This course, based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neffand the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to open to the present moment, feel connected to self and others and respond with compassion.ĭr. Researchhas shown that self-compassion enhances emotional well-being. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an 8-week course offered several times a year in the Chicago area. Through mindful self-compassion, we offer the same kindness to ourselves. Participants learn to turn toward and acknowledge difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with mindfulness and respond with kindness rather than self-criticism. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) and Mindful Self-Compassion-Short Course (MSC-SC) are multi-week holistic wellness programs that combine the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance emotional resilience. Being "tough" on ourselves has it's adaptive qualities in the short term, but often leads to perfectionistic thinking, depression, and feelings of isolation.
